Voice Effects help you add emotions and expressive tones to the generated speech such as happy, calm, sad, angry, shouting, and more.
Voice Effects can be applied in two ways:
- To the entire text through the voice settings
- To specific words or sentences by using the SSML tags
Please note that Voice Effects are only available for certain voices and languages.
How to identify voices that support Voice Effects
Default Voices that support Voice Effects usually have the suffix “E” in their name.
For example, in English (US) under the AI3 voice model, some voices include the “E” suffix, which indicates that Voice Effects are supported for those voices.
If a voice does not have the E suffix, Voice Effects will not be available for that voice.

Let's get back to how to use them. In this tutorial I will use Jony's voice from English, US. Lets listen to his default voice first.
Applying Voice Effects to the entire text
Step 1: Enter your text in the editor and select your preferred voice which supports voice effects.

Step 2 : In the right side bar click on the 'Voice Effects' icon and you would be able to see all the available voice effects with the voice. Select a voice effect you wish to apply.

Step 3 : Click Convert to Speech to generate the audio with the selected voice effect applied to the entire text.

This will produce speech where the whole narration carries the single emotion.
Below I have attached some sample voice effects for Jony AI3, English, US. I have kept the script same so that you could get a real picture over the voice effects technology.
Applying Voice Effects to specific parts of the text
Step 1: Enter your text in the editor and select your preferred voice which supports voice effects.

Step 2 : In the right side bar click on the 'Voice Effects' icon and select the voice effect as 'Default'.

Step 3 : Select the sentence, part of a sentence or a word you wish to apply the specific voice effect for.

Step 4 : Click on the 'Voice Effect' button and select the desired voice effect.

This will apply the voice effect SSML tag to the selected text.

Similarly, you can add multiple voice effects SSML tags.

Step 5 : Once, everything is done, Click Convert to Speech to generate the audio with multiple voice effects.
